ROLE MODELS RAISE

£78,000

Diversity Role Models, the charity that takes ‘role models’ to schools to talk to pupils about bullying, name-calling and issues around sexuality, has announced that its second, annual, ‘Carnival’ fundraiser managed to raise £78,000. Leading organisations and talent gathered in London at the Café de Paris on Thursday 24 October to support the event (pictured), which featured a special guest performance from Jimmy Somerville and an auction hosted by Amy Lamé.

Other guests at the event included Coronation Street’s Charlie Condou; reality TV star, Harry Derbridge; comedian Rosie Wilby; and Wendy Meakin, star of Channel 4’s Four Rooms.
The auction conducted by Amy Lamé included specially donated lots such as: dinner for 20 at Jacob Kenedy and Victor Hugo’s Bocca di Lupo, with special guest, Gareth Thomas; a meal cooked at the winner’s home for six to eight friends by Emma Kennedy, winner of Celebrity Masterchef 2012; and three nights at the legendary Ice Hotel in Swedish Lapland, including a magical tour of the Northern Lights by snowmobile.
Over 450 guests enjoyed a selection of cocktails specially created by sponsor, Grey Goose, and canapés such as giant tiger prawns and melt-in-the-mouth chocolate cups provided by the Café de Paris’ team of chefs.
Commenting on the success of the evening, Suran Dickson, Chief Executive of Diversity Role Models, said, “We are intensely grateful to everyone who attended the Carnival for their generous support of Diversity Role Models and to all the performers and organisers who so kindly gave us their time for no charge. In addition, I would particularly like to thank the event sponsors - Accenture, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, BNP Paribas and Grey Goose - without whom the Carnival would not possibly have happened.
“My final spur to creating DRM was the suicide of 15-year old Dominic Crouch who had been subjected to homophobic bullying by his schoolmates. The success of our second Carnival is a huge step forwards in enabling us to expand our full-time staff and accelerate our ambitious plans to offer our life-changing pro-diversity, anti-homophobic workshops to pupils in schools across the UK.”
