The PinkNews Awards 2013
The inaugural PinkNews Awards were hosted by the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, on Wednesday in the Speaker’s House of the Palace of Westminster. The following pictures showcase some of the most important and exciting moments of the evening. The awards were presented to recognise the contributions of politicians, businesses and community campaigning groups to advancing LGBT life across the UK. The speaker, as well as guests including Helen Grant, Equalities Minister, and Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister all commended PinkNews, and efforts to pass equal marriage law, but emphasised the need to do more for moves to equality.
Also in attendance were Coronation Street actor Charlie Condou, and Ollie Locke of Made in Chelsea fame.
Here is a handheld slightly shaky video of PinkNews Deputy Editor Joseph Patrick McCormick proposing to his fiancĂ© James Anthony Hanson at Speaker’s House in the Palace of Westminster. The cameraman said he was taken slightly off guard by the proposal. It is believed that Mr Hanson and Mr McCormick were the first gay couple to have gotten engaged inside the Speaker’s House.
I visited Wentworth to make sure the ad was in Malcolm’s paper. It was!
Hey Tom -
Just dropping you a quick note to say thanks for all your support over the last few weeks -- and to make sure you saw the incredible news coverage of the ad we placed in Malcolm Turnbull's local paper with your support. It was front page of the Sydney Morning Herald website, in The Australian, Daily Telegraph, and a heap of others. We've shared all the coverage on our Facebook page here. Next step: over the next few weeks we're organising events and meetings with local MPs across the country. Thanks to all those who've stepped up to be part of it already. Here's to a fibre-to-the-premises and fast broadband future!
Thanks again.
Alex, Nick and the Save the NBN Campaign.
