CHRISTMAS NO.1
Will Lily Allen be heading for Christmas number one with John Lewis advert cover?

It's a prize that the X Factor winner has always got their eye on, but this year's Christmas number one could be going to someone who has been in the music business a lot longer. Following the unveiling of the new John Lewis Christmas advert, it's a strong possibility that Lily Allen could be claiming the top spot on December 25 this year thanks to her cover of the 2004 Keane single 'Somewhere Only We Know.' The 28-year-old distinctive voice can be heard almost immediately on the new animated clip, which cost the British retailer a staggering £7 million to make. It's been quite a while since Lily stormed to the top of the charts, following her absence from the music business after getting married and starting a family. But bookies William Hill have slashed the singer’s odds of topping the charts this festive period from 16/1 to 7/1. But Lily will no doubt have some stiff competition from various other contenders such as this year's X Factor winner, with the contestant's single being the 11/10 favourite to reach number one. In the past eight years, five separate winners of the ITV1 show have shot straight to number one with their winner's single - which is available to buy and download as soon as the series ends in mid-December. However, the last X Factor star to have a festiva number one was Matt Cardle back in 2010. The following year saw the Military Wives and Gareth Malone go straight to the top with their song 'Wherever You Are' which sold over 556,000 copies in one week - which was more than the rest of the Top 12 combined. The Official Charts Company recently announced that the X Factor single will be released on December 16, putting it back in the race to become the festive chart-topper after a two year absence. Meanwhile Susan Boyle and Elvis Presley’s O Come, All Ye Faithful is close behind X Factor with 7/2 odds, followed by The Big Reunion’s cover of Wizzard’s I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday with 5/1. Another charity single in the race is 'Tomorrow' which is sung by 11-year-old choirboy Jack Topping who is raising funds for Save The Children with his song. Jack, who is an ambassador for the charity, said: "I watch the X Factor every week so it's really exciting and a bit scary that I will be going up against them. "I really like the contestants on the X Factor but I would love to have a Christmas number 1 so it raises lots of money for Save the Children and the children I have met so far."
