Mari, one of my blog contributors has been busy making sure the conservative Lib/Nat coalition party currently ruling Oz get as much coverage as possible because, as we all know, Tony Abbott and his puppet master Rupert Murdoch are making sure the average Aussie punter is kept in the dark when it comes to newspaper and media coverage!

The biggest national petition ever sent to an Australian Government has been organised by online group "CHANGE.ORG." Here is their latest email directed to me and if you'd like to contribute or join the protest please do - Tom

The next 60 days are critical. Turnbull's sacked the NBN Co board, appointed a new chairman and is so far refusing to meet with us face-to-face -- but we know he's watching public opinion closely as he conducts a full review of Australia's broadband future.

More than a quarter of a million people -- 250,000 Australians -- have signed the petition to protect our NBN. Since then, thousands of letters, phone calls, and tweets have helped make the NBN one of the most talked about issues in the country.

But that alone won't save the NBN.

If Turnbull keeps refusing to meet with us, let's take the message to him in a way he simply won't be able to ignore -- by taking out front-page ads in his local newspaper that lands on his desk every morning, right when he's reviewing the NBN papers.

Can you chip in a few dollars to help take our campaign for the NBN right to Malcolm Turnbull's desk as he begins the 60 day broadband review?


This is what I know can make a difference. And exactly what you all suggested we need to do in the survey: every one of us doing our bit to make sure he knows exactly how much the Australian public want fast fibre-to-the-home broadband.

Doing the sums, it'll cost around $15,000 to take out a front-page ad in Malcolm Turnbull's paper the Wentworth Courier. That means if just 5,000 of us chip in a few dollars each we can put the ad in the paper just as the NBN review starts -- and any extra funds mean we'll take this message to the electorates of new marginal seat Liberal MPs too.

Bishop defends claiming India wedding cost

    • SENIOR coalition government minister Julie Bishop argues there's a "very grey area" between work and play for travel expense claims as she defended charging taxpayers to attend a wedding in India. Ms Bishop claimed $3445 to return from the lavish wedding in Hyderabad in 2011, but says she sought and received prior approval. Coalition colleagues Barnaby Joyce and Teresa Gambaro also attended after being invited by mining magnate Gina Rinehart, and collectively the three claimed more than $12,000 in overseas study allowances. The revelation sparked fierce debate about the validity of political entitlements in which a number of government and Labor MPs - including Prime Minister Tony Abbott - were quizzed about their past claims. But Ms Bishop defended her actions, saying most of the time politicians were invited to events it was in their role as parliamentarians. "I believe that there is a very grey area between what is official business and what is an event that could be characterised in another way," she told ABC radio on Friday. "If someone wanted to characterise it (as a social event) because I knew the people, for example, well is that a social event?" The wedding, attended by 10,000 people, was more like a "high-powered gathering" of significant Indian business and political leaders and could hardly be described as a social event, she said. There was no need to change the rules around parliamentary entitlements, but the question of disclosure remained paramount, Ms Bishop said. 
    "Disclose it and be transparent about it."
