Phil Collinson to leave by end of year in ITV shake-up?

Today's Sunday Mirror says that Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson will quit his job by the end of the year - and he'll blow up the Rovers Return as his parting shot. A "Corrie insider" says: “Blowing up the Rovers would be the most dramatic thing to happen on the Street. Phil thinks millions of extra viewers would tune in. But it means everyone on in the show is looking over their shoulder wondering if they’ll be inside when the pub goes up in smoke.”
Collinson revealed in February that he planned to quit by “the middle of next year”. But Corrie sources have told the Sunday Mirror he will move on earlier than planned as part of a shake-up by ITV bosses. A Street spokesman yesterday declined to comment on when Collinson would go.

PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT

My brother Geoff (who shares his birthday with Charlie Condou) has just returned from his trip to the centre of Australia. Geoff travelled through 4 Australian states, which in land mass are bigger than the USA.

Geoff and his wife, visited Uluru (Ayres Rock) and stayed at the pub in Broken Hill where the movie "Priscilla Queen Of The Desert" was shot.

Geoff said he was taken aback by the fresco work in the "Priscilla" hotel in Broken Hill. It covers every level and available surface and is not as tacky as you may imagine! Honestly!

Geoff sent numerous shots of inland Australia but the ones sent from his helicopter flights were a bit off-centre and decidedly shaky as he had his hands over his eyes most of the time. Geoff has never had a head for heights!

THE BUTTERFLY INCIDENT

FOR THOSE WHO ARE TOO YOUNG TO KNOW ABOUT THE BUTTERFLY INCIDENT:

Here in Oz there was a major 1970-71 radio ban on songs that were from overseas and a little Australian company churned out copies of foreign hits to take advantage of the loss of valuable sales by the big companies.
FABLE music was able to issue many hits during this big ban one of which was a remake of the German hit Butterfly by Danyel Gerard. Danyel's version was given new English lyrics and was released on the FABLE label by an artist known as Matt Flinders. His version outsold Danyel's version many times over. Danyel Gerard on hearing the new version was livid that his own translated-into-English lyrics were ignored, so he pursued Matt Flinders and insisted even though he didn't pen the lyrics he wanted the royalties.

At various times there were two versions of Butterfly with alternate English lyrics and various other versions of Butterfly in different languages...Italian, German, French Spanish, Japanese etc...
Oh and just before I forget, Danyel Gerard insisted that Matt Flinders had to sing a version of Butterfly using lyrics penned by Gerard...so Matt Flinders has 2 diffident versions of the song as well!
