Corrie's Charlie Condou: Gay men fall in love with women and stay with them - but it won't end well for Maria and Marcus
Corrie’s Charlie Condou knows Todd is turning Marcus's head.
Coronation
Street actor Charlie Condou is about
to star in one of the soap's most OMG storylines ever, with his bisexual character Marcus Dent starting a gay affair with Todd Grimshaw (Bruno Langley) behind his girlfriend Maria Connor's (Samia Ghadie) back.
Away from the cobbles Charlie, 40 - who's just announced his summer departure from the soap - is happily settled with his partner Cameron Laux, 49, and their two kids, but he's enjoying the juicy storyline. 'Marcus was in a gay relationship with Sean Tully [Antony Cotton] for a long time and then fell in love with Maria,' he explains. 'He's been with her for a while and genuinely loves her. 'But now Todd's turned up and he's very good- looking, so I think he's turning Marcus's head. 'I really feel sorry for Maria. It's been hard for her because Marcus has always been struggling with whether he's straight or gay. 'Can you imagine always wondering if your partner will leave you for another man? You've got to be a very strong person to deal with that.' Does this happen in real life? 'It does. Gay men fall in love with women and stay with them. 'But this is a soap, so it's never going to end well...'

Coronation Street is on ITV1 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

AUSTRALIA HAD 5 DAYS OF MARRIAGE EQUALITY AND NOW IT'S ALL GONE! PM STRIKES DOWN WEDDING LAWS
Gay couples left devastated as Australia PM strikes down new gay weddings law and annuls the marriages they had just days ago:

Conservative (Liberal / National Party): Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott is against gay marriage and blocked two bills

Gay couples who wed less than a week ago have had their marriages annulled after Australia's highest court struck down a law allowing the nation's first same-sex unions. The weddings were legalised in the capital Canberra on Saturday after regional authorities enacted a gay marriage law - which the government said was invalid. Today the High Court of Australia agreed, shattering the dreams of more than a dozen couples who had already married this past weekend. Outside the High Court in Canberra, a tearful Mr Rodney Croome (Australian Marriage Equality Activist), flanked by several same-sex newlyweds, said the latest ruling was a defeat for marriage equality but there had been a 'greater victory'. 'That victory was the nation saw for the first time, I believe, what is really at the core of this issue,' he said. 'They've seen that marriage equality is not about protest or politics or even about laws in the constitution, ultimately. Marriage equality is about love, commitment, family and fairness.' The ruling has effectively barred any other Australian states from legalising same-sex marriage, and the decision can now only be taken by the government. However, Prime Minister Tony Abbott opposes gay marriage and his coalition blocked two federal bills last year that would have allowed legal recognition of same-sex partnerships. Lyle Shelton, managing director of Australian Christian Lobby, which opposes same-sex marriage, praised the court ruling and said common sense had prevailed. As for the ruling's impact on the newlywed couples, Shelton said it was 'really sad that they were put in a position' in which they were allowed to marry before the court handed down its judgment. The ruling comes a day after India's Supreme Court struck down a 2009 lower court decision to decriminalize homosexuality. The verdict to reinstate gay sex as an 'unnatural act' as part of a 153-year-old colonial law prompted dismay from human rights groups across the world, which condemned the ruling as 'medieval and regressive'. Homosexual acts in India, in many parts a deeply conservative country, are punishable with life in jail.

GENERAL MOTORS TO EXIT AUSTRALIA BY 2017
Bomb-proof BMWs will replace the Prime Minister's General Motors Holden fleet of limousines
THE Prime Minister's flagship fleet of high-security General Motors Holden limos is expected to be replaced with bomb and gas proof BMWs after Government sources claimed Holden had failed to bid for a lucrative $4 million plus contract to replace the ageing convoy of armoured cars.
And a further armada of 20 German built cars will need to be leased for the G20 Summit in Brisbane next year - at a cost of $2 million.
