MARCUS DENT
A LOOK AT HIS STORY SO FAR
& WHERE TO NEXT...
Below: Back in 2007 the scene was set for Sean and Marcus to be a couple! But things never go smoothly on soaps.
Below: The UK Mirror reported in 2011 that there was going to be a gay wedding on Corrie between Sean and Marcus and they even used the following graphic - how wrong could they be?
Sean is the none-too-bright knicker factory seamstress and resident flamboyant gay of Coronation Street, Weatherfield. Marcus is a solid hard working midwife at the local hospital. Sean fathers a child called Dylan with a girl of Wilson - this is when he meets Marcus in 2007. For a while Marcus and Sean are happy as a couple. Sean uses Dylan at times, like a pawn, to strategically keep Marcus around because Marcus has always wanted children even if he is gay. Then Marcus departs in 2008 for London because he's had enough of Sean's jealous rages and immaturity. Next, Sean goes down to London to look after Dylan in 2011, when Ms Wilson can't care for Dylan. Sean meets Marcus accidentally while he's out sightseeing with his son. Marcus assumes that Sean has grown up and is more responsible now because he is caring for Dylan. Marcus moves back to Weatherfield in the hopes that things will be better between them. It's not long and Sean is back to his old idiotic jealous ways and he slowly puts a wedge between him and Marcus Marcus doesn't want to leave town due to work commitments so he suffers along until he starts to have a relationship with Aiden who works at the same hospital as Marcus. The relationship with Aiden ends abruptly when Marcus realises that maybe he wanted to be a family man all along and have children and maybe a wife. Of course we all know that Sean is the one responsible for manoeuvring Aiden into departing! OK, so now Marcus is kinda confused and doesn't want to go back to Sean.
Marcus is seduced into a one night stand by Maria his landlady, a single mother who works as a beautician on the Cobbles and rents out rooms above her shop. Maria pounces on Marcus and within a few days has him all stitched-up and living the life of a married man. This breaks apart the good relationship Marcus has had with his friend Jason. Jason was the boyfriend of Maria up until he discovered that Marcus was shacked-up with Maria via gossip from Sean who was plotting revenge on Marcus for having left him... I hope you are keeping up here ...just when you think things can't get any worse Christmas 2012 arrives and the parents of Marcus come for a visit and it makes Marcus question his gayness once again...
WHERE TO NEXT FOR MARCUS?
5 possible future scenarios:
1 # Sean dies mysteriously when Maria can't stand seeing him interfere in her life any further and she and Marcus and their 6 children move to Australia and live happily ever after.
2 # Sean decides he wants to be straight and moves back to London with Dylan and Ms Wilson. Marcus and Maria live happily ever after.
3 # Jason realises he misses Maria sooo much he is willing to enter into a 3-way relationship with her and Marcus. Marcus is very pleased with this scenario I must say!
4 # Aiden shows up again and is pregnant with Marcus's baby - the first male pregnancy! They make a fortune on the chat show circuit and live happily ever after.
5 # Maria shuns men and becomes a lesbian which forces Marcus back onto the "meat market." In a seedy gay bar Marcus meets Blake a nice bisexual Texan cowboy whose wife [called Cricket] runs a major company but lives in a little rural town where the local church is a major focus. Marcus becomes Blake's lover, moves to Blake's ranch in Texas, changes his name to Rusty Dent and becomes the ranch foreman. Within 3 years Rusty has learnt how to be a fully fledged cow-poke. When Blake discovers he can't have children because he's infertile, he and Cricket decide to use Rusty as the sperm donor and they all live happily ever after...
We all know of course that Marcus's won't end up "happy ever after" on Corrie...it's a soap after all!
