EXPLOITS IN WEST POLEY
This is a children's adventure film adapted from a Thomas Hardy story. Unlike most of his novels this one ends happily. The story is charming and rustic and according to YouTube, this small 5 minute excerpt is not available for embedding on third party blog sites, and is blocked. Well, presumably somebody forgot to tell YouTube about moi! Obviously! 'Exploits' was filmed in 1985 and intended to be released as a feature film circa 1986 but it sat on a shelf for 5 years before it had its début on ITV in 1990. The market for children's drama had slumped in the intervening years. There are a few names in the cast you may recognise besides Charlie Condou who was aged 11 when it was shot.
Synopsis: A motherless boy (Charlie Condou) goes to stay with his widowed aunt and older boy cousin in West Poley. The two boys become friends and explore the local caves, finding a secret cave inside a larger one with an underground stream/river. They change the direction of this stream with disastrous results for West Poley, but much to the delight of East Poley's residents. Changing the stream back involves another young boy (apprenticed to the cruel miller) and two life threatening incidents.
Cast: Anthony Bale (The Man Who Has Failed), Brenda Fricker (Aunt Draycott), Charlie Condou (Leonard), Sean Bean (Scarface), Jonathan Jackson (Stephen), Jonathan Adams (Miller Griffin), Noel O’Connell (Job Tray), Frank Mills (Ned Jones), Thomas Heathcote (Farmer Will Gant), James Coyle (Millhand), Jelena Budimir (Washerwoman), Diana King (Old Woman), Kelita Groom (Susan), Brian Coburn (Branded Man), George Malpas (Shepherd), Barry Dromfield (Fiddler), Jacob Thomas (Young Boy).

EUSTON ROAD
'Euston Road' (2004) is a short film starring Paul Bettany and Charlie Condou. It's quick-paced and glossy and according to YouTube, not available for embedding on third party blog sites, and is blocked. Well, presumably somebody forgot to tell YouTube about moi! Obviously!
Synopsis: A fast car. Two men talking in a hotel bar. Seven questions in eight minutes. And it's 9pm on Euston Road. Figure it out...before time is up!
Warning: contains coarse language.
