STONEWALL BIG WINNER AT "OUT IN THE CITY"
Stonewall sweeps the board at Out in the City and g3 Magazine Awards
Charity wins five awards voted for by readers

Stonewall won five awards on Friday night at the star-studded Out in the City and g3Readers’ Awards. Hundreds of guests attended the annual ceremony at the Landmark Hotel in London, which was hosted by actor Sophie Ward and Coronation Street star Charlie Condou. The magazines’ thousands of readers voted for Stonewall Chief Executive Ben Summerskill to win Out in the City’s Campaigner of the Year Award, while Deputy Chief Executive Laura Doughty won the g3 award in the same category. Stonewall was named Charity of the Year by both magazines, and the charity’s iconic ‘Some People Are Gay. Get Over It!’ campaign – which ran on buses across Britain last year – won g3's Marketing Campaign of the Year Award. Accepting Stonewall’s award as Charity of the Year, Ben Summerskill said: ‘Stonewall is a remarkable constellation of dozens of brilliant staff, hundreds of incredible volunteers and tens of thousands of dogged supporters. They have made Stonewall what it is.’ Other guests at the Awards included Paralympics GB’s women’s sitting volleyball captain Claire Harvey, actor Heather Peace and TV presenter Clare Balding.

Michael Le Vell is backed for Coronation Street return. Le Vell, who plays Corrie mechanic Kevin Webster, is facing trial on a string of charges. Speaking at an awards ceremony, Charlie Condou, 40, said: “I think Mike’s great and I personally am looking forward to him coming back to work.” He added: “I'm looking forward to seeing him and we've been in text contact. I can’t even begin to imagine what he’s going through, but he seems to be doing good.” Charlie is the latest big name from the ITV show to publicly back Le Vell, who is facing a string of charges. Corrie bosses have written Le Vell, who plays Kevin Webster, out of any further story-lines until the trial in September is over. Le Vell, 48, has denied the allegations and vowed to clear his name with a vigorous defence. Co-star Kym Lomas, 36, has previously said she will welcome Le Vell back as Corrie mechanic Kevin Webster with open arms. Kym, who plays Michelle Connor, said: “Michael has the full support of the cast, we’re very much behind him. We’re a team and we’re a team no matter what... we’re always there to back each other up.” Former Street star Helen Flanagan, 22, also pledged her support for the actor , who has been on the soap for 30 years. The actress, who played Kevin’s wayward daughter Rosie for 11 years, said of the charges: “I don’t believe it for a second. I can’t believe what Michael is going through. It’s absolutely vile what is being said about him.” And Bill Roache, 80 – Ken Barlow in Corrie – said a month ago: “You’re innocent until proven guilty. So let’s wait until the trial is over.” Le Vell has been told he does have a future on the cobbles of Weatherfield if he is cleared.
