Coronation Street star Charlie Condou says autograph hunters won't even let him PEE in peace

The Marcus Dent actor says fans demand an autograph and ask to shake his hand when he’s having a wee.
Taking the pee: Corrie star Charlie Condou

Coronation Street star Charlie Condou says fans demand an autograph and ask to shake his hand when he’s having a wee. The TV favourite says he is stopped 10 times a day by fans of the Weatherfield soap who don’t care if he is talking on the phone or trying to calm his crying daughter. And the dad-of-two – who is in a same-sex relationship – says others interrupt his lunch to grab a selfie or a signature. Charlie – the soap’s Marcus Dent – revealed: “I do get recognised on a pretty regular basis. “In Manchester, where Coronation Street is filmed, I might get stopped ten times a day for a photo or an autograph. It’s not always convenient. “I’ve been asked for a picture while trying to deal with my two-year-old having a tantrum in the supermarket, or when I’m trying to wolf down a sandwich in my only ten-minute break of the day. “I’ve had people interrupt me while I’m on the phone or even wanting to shake my hand while I’m having a p*** at the urinal - seriously people, at least let me put it away first.

“I always make the time, though - firstly because it only takes a minute or two out of my day so it seems ridiculous not to, and, secondly, because I’m well aware that it is those people, the ones who care enough to stop me to say hello, who are the reason I have the good fortune to be doing a job I adore.“Without an audience an actor is nothing. So I’m grateful for the support, even if it is occasionally a bit clumsy.” But Marcus might have an easier time in future with autograph hunters because he is leaving Corrie later this year. After seven years on the cobbles as midwife Marcus, Charlie is quitting the show soap to spend more time with his family. “It was really sad and a difficult decision.” he said. “But I’m based in London... my kids, my partner, my family. “I think once I’d made the decision I realised it had to be sooner rather than later.” Marcus will leave Weatherfield after the breakdown of his relationship with manipulative Todd Grimshaw. But fortunately for fans, the door has been left open for the 41-year-old star to return. The actor added: They were really lovely to do that. So who knows what might happen in the future. It’s definitely nice to know the option is there for me to go back. “Having said that, it is nerve wracking leaving a steady acting job.”
