GAY Corrie star Charlie Condou has fathered two children with a girl pal.

The actor, 40, who plays midwife Marcus Dent, agreed with actress friend Catherine Kanter they would have a child if she did not find love by the time she was 40. Catherine stayed single but Charlie hooked up with partner Cameron Laux, 49. But the soap star honoured the deal, fathering Catherine’s daughter Georgia, four, and two-year-old son Hal, by IVF.

Charlie, Cameron and Catherine, 45, all share the responsibility for raising the youngsters in Islington, north London. Charlie said: “I always wanted to be a daddy. Charlie Condou talks fatherhood

Coronation Street's Charlie Condou has spoken about the pact with a female friend that made him a father of two. The star, who plays Marcus Dent, is gay but fathered two children through IVF with friend Catherine Kanter, 45, when they made a pact that he would have kids with her if she hadn't met Mr Right by the time she was 40. He told Red magazine: "I always wanted to be a dad. When I came out to my parents as a teenager, their only concern was I might never be a father and they knew how much I wanted to be. "Catherine and I had the conversation I'm sure thousands of women have with their gay friends, a sort of plan-B pact - to have a child together should Mr Right not appear. I'd had other female friends ask me and it never felt right. But with Catherine it did." 

They now have two children, Georgia, four, and Hal, two, who spend half their time with Charlie and his partner Cameron Laux and the other half with Catherine, who lives nearby. Charlie, 40, said: "Something I realised early on is that I'll never be the one who feels compromised: I'm in a relationship with Cameron and I'm the biological parent with Catherine, so my position is clear. "Catherine is single, so she doesn't have someone to talk to about the kids in the way Cam and I do." Cameron, 49, said the set-up was like a modern marriage between three people: "Or at least it's like a friendly divorce, where the kids split their time between two homes! It works well, though."

Charlie Condou has mocked the Daily Star for printing a story claiming he has secret love children, when he has spoken openly about his kids before. The gay actor, who plays Marcus Dent in the ITV soap, has welcomed two children through IVF and also wrote a weekly column for The Guardian on the subject of same-sex parenting. Condou has previously said of being a gay parent: "Almost everyone was fine with the idea of it apart from a couple of my gay friends. Someone asked me why I was trying to fit into a heterosexual stereotype. "I thought I was doing the opposite, proving we can do it, too. It doesn't have to be them or us."
