We love a surprising soap love twist here at Virgin Towers. Yay, Love! Woo! And this week alone saw a platonic pairing get passionate, a secret lover up the stakes and some old flames reignited. In the week’s most shocking love twist of all, Maria and Marcus had sex. SEX. Marcus is gay. That is all.
Actually, no that’s not all. Because we've been waiting weeks, nay months, for Maria and Marcus to cross the line. Poor, unlucky in love Maria, and kind, sensitive, well-groomed, eager to baby-sit while you go out partying, perfect Marcus. But whilst we sympathise with Maria for falling for her GBF, we can’t foresee a happy ending for Weatherfield’s princess. Marcus is gay, Maria! Gay! But then, he is having an affair with a woman. Actually, not just an affair. By the end of the soap week, he’d split with his hot boyfriend and confessed his undying love. Yowza.
It’s a tricky subject and we must applaud Corrie for tackling it. Charlie Condou, who plays Marcus, is a keen, nay veteran, gay rights activist - not to mention Attitude’s Man of the Year 2012 - so we’re guessing he wouldn’t get involved in a storyline he found even mildly offensive, so we can only wait and see how the writers conclude this confusing tale. And ask for your thoughts and views in the meantime. But enough of the heavy. Let’s not gloss over the real issue here. Maria has cheated on Jason Grimshaw. JASON! He of heavenly bod, strong jaw and Michelangelo’s David-esque curls. Is she completely bonkers?

SMACK DOWN ‘CORRIE’ STYLE
Airs Monday 12th November 2012 UK ITV1 7.30pm
Maria Connor and Marcus Dent's secret liaison will have explosive consequences on 'Coronation Street'. Maria’s soon to be ex-boyfriend Jason Grimshaw will cause a dramatic scene in the Rovers Return pub after he discovers Maria dumped him for her gay best friend.
Scenario:
With Jason back home after working away, Maria prepares to break up with him. Later on, Maria tells Jason as kindly as she can that it’s over. Confused, Jason is sure that there’s someone else, but Maria denies this. Jason starts to pack his things up and then pours his heart out to mum Eileen.
At the same time, Sean pays Marcus a visit, telling him that he knows that he still loves him and that they are destined to be together.
BLEURGH!
Like, as if!!
Marcus lets him down, telling him that he’s got it all wrong. Hurt and confused, Sean walks out. Convinced that Marcus is hiding something, Sean heads back to find him. But as he enters the flat, he soon discovers the real reason Marcus stayed in Weatherfield!
(More kissing with Maria & Marcus ensues).
As Sean stands in the doorway in complete shock at what he’s just seen, he’s completely lost for words, and that’s not like Sean! When he leaves, Marcus chases after him and tries to explain.
Heading to the Rovers, Sean finds Jason there, drowning his sorrows. When Marcus and Maria arrive, they assume that Sean has spilled the beans and start trying to explain themselves.
Working out what’s going on, Jason throws a few left hooks at Marcus, and the resulting fight spills out onto the cobbles, where of course everyone has a good look at what’s going on!
Sean then insists that Marcus doesn't love Maria but just wants a ready-made family.
However, the biggest issue with their new romance is that Marcus is still struggling with his sexuality after coming to terms with the fact he has real feelings for Maria.
So many questions, so little time…
