"Frank Stubbs Promotes"

Frank Stubbs Presents, was a comedy/drama TV series of 13 episodes. It ran from July 1993 to August 1994.
The cast included many UK notables: Timothy Spall (Harry Potter), Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter/Pirates), Sylvester McCoy (Dr Who), Lesley Sharp (Full Monty) and of course, Charlie Condou (Charlotte Gray/Good/Judge Dredd/Fred Claus/Key To Rebecca).
When Charlie started work on the show at age eighteen, he was already a seasoned actor, having been in earlier movies and TV shows from about the age of twelve. When the series concluded he was twenty.
Charlie played Jason Stubbs, the son of Frank Stubbs (Timothy Spall). In the show, the Stubbs family were newly separated and the children lived at their mother's residence. When Jason (Condou), had screen time it was usually to put his father down for what had happened to the family. The episode where Charlie first made his appearance was Season 1, Episode 2: "Wheels."
It was during the filming of this series that Charlie met one of his long-term friends, Amanda Mealing.
Charlie and Amanda are still in contact some 20 years on. By using the blog search facility (top left corner), you'll be able to locate and read some of their correspondence. If, you are a regular CCC blog follower, you'll know that Charlie has had correspondence with Timothy Spall, Danniella Westbrook (another long-term friend) and many others of the Frank Stubbs' alumni.

One reviewer in 2005 said 'Frank Stubbs Promotes' was a good show which slipped through the cracks because ITV were more intent on promoting A Touch Of Frost and Inspector Morse:
Frank Stubbs promotes was a comedy/drama much in the vein of "Minder" but without the double act. Frank is your classic down on his luck hero; in this case a promoter of actors, entertainers, sportsmen, you name it. He's broken away from his slimy boss/rival (played by Nick Reding in series 1) to be his own boss but each week, he'll either be befriending some other down on their luck has-been trying to make a comeback, or an aspiring newcomer with stars in their eyes. Added to that, Frank has his ex-wife and family to deal with, who all think he's a big loser. You couldn't help but feel sorry for Frank; he has big dreams and ambitions and genuinely wants to help everyone who comes to him, but he can't escape the fact that he's not a big time player in promotions and that he resorts to cheap, shoddy and cringeworthy publicity stunts. In series two, he begins a romance with the receptionist at a big promotions firm, and the tender romantic scenes are brilliantly played out by Spall and Carolyn Bradshaw.
