Coronation Street Spoilers October 1 - 5, 2012
Maria explains to Marcus that she has been referred to a clinic about a lump in her breast and her appointment is that day. She wanted to keep quiet about it until she knew what she was facing. Marcus insists on coming to the hospital with her. After fobbing Aiden off and avoiding Jason, Maria and Marcus arrive at the clinic.
The tests are inconclusive, and when they head back to the street, not even Marcus's informed encouragement about the potential prognosis can seem to lessen Maria's fear.
Maria and Marcus are left in turmoil after they unexpectedly kiss. The pair are drawn passionately together as Maria celebrates getting an all-clear in her cancer scare. It has been to Marcus, her gay best friend, that Maria has turned to again and again, and she has been amazed by his unconditional love and support over the last year. But as an emotional week draws to a close their passion leaves them questioning their real feelings, and if they can forget about what has happened between them.

Rupert Everett receives threats after gay parenting comments

Rupert Everett has said that he has received death threats in response to his comments about gay parenting. The openly homosexual actor told The Daily Telegraph that the abuse has reached a level that requires him to take "evasive action". Everett said: "I've now had all this hate mail and there have been threats too.

"All the queens out there now have it in for me. I'm loathed by them. I'm having to take evasive action." The 53-year-old - who is currently playing Oscar Wilde in Sir David Hare's play 'The Judas Kiss' while also promoting his latest volume of memoirs Vanished Years - was heavily criticised after he said he couldn't think of "anything worse than being brought up by two gay dads".

Ben Summerskill, chief executive of the campaign group Stonewall, said of the remarks: "Rupert should get out a little bit more to see the facts for himself. There is absolutely no evidence that the kids of gay parents suffer in the way they are being brought up or in how they develop."

Coronation Street star Charlie Condou, who plays Marcus Dent in the soap, also spoke out in favour of same sex parenting. The actor, who has two children, conceived via surrogate with boyfriend Cameron Laux, branded Everett a "gay dinosaur" in a self-penned piece published in the Evening Standard.
