CORONATION STREET CAST AT THE NTAs

The cast and crew of Coronation Street were celebrating backstage at the National Television Awards 2014, after taking the best Serial Drama gong for the third year in a row. Charlie Condou, who plays Marcus Dent on the Street, said: “It feels fantastic. It’s always really nice to be nominated, but it’s great to win.” The award was testament to an incredible year in Weatherfield, culminating in the recent Hayley storyline, which saw the character take her own life in highly emotional scenes. Paula Lane, who stars as Kylie, said the stars of the soap were just as moved as viewers at home as they watched Haley’s final episode play out. She said: “All of us watched it from a viewer’s perspective and I was blown away by it and the writing. It was unbelievable. I don’t think anyone has ever witnessed that.”

The cast admitted they would love to be back at the NTAs next year, taking the serial drama gong for the fourth year in a row, but how are they going to top this last explosive year? Producer Stuart Blackburn has big plans up his sleeve. He said: “There’s massive stuff coming up. Todd’s back and he’s very, very nasty. Poor Marcus. Tina’s leaving and it’s going to be incredibly spectacular and the Windass’ lives are going to be changed forever.” Stuart added: “Watch out in the future for Kylie. She’s gone quiet but that ain't gong to last.”
