MARCUS' DRAMATIC DEPARTURE
Charlie Condou, who plays Marcus Dent, is set to leave Coronation Street in a dramatic storyline that is set to rock the cobbles. Marcus will fall for the charms of the newly returned Todd, leading him to question his feelings for girlfriend Maria. Charlie has agreed to extend his current contract to early summer 2014 to see the storyline through to its dramatic conclusion. Speaking of his decision to leave the soap Charlie said: “I've had a fantastic time at Corrie but feel it's time for me to move on. I was only meant to return for three months and ended up staying for three years! The producers have been really supportive and are leaving the door open for Marcus which is great, and my exit will certainly be explosive.”

"My exit will certainly be an explosive storyline...”
- Charlie Condou, who plays Marcus

The character of Marcus set tongues wagging when, despite being openly gay, he fell in love with hairdresser and single mum Maria, they moved in together and he became a father to her son Liam. Now Todd, played by Bruno Langley, has returned to Weatherfield and he soon sets his sights on Marcus - refusing to believe that the handsome midwife can resist his charms. Manipulative Todd will get his wish in the New Year in the start of a storyline that will divide the residents of Coronation Street. Producer Stuart Blackburn said: “I will be incredibly sad to see Charlie go and wish him well for what I know will be an exciting future.”

Coronation Street: actor Charlie Condou quits Marcus Dent role

The actor will leave in summer 2014 at the climax of a plotline that will see Marcus getting involved with Todd

Actor Charlie Condou is to leave Coronation Street in the summer of 2014 after his character Marcus Dent falls for Todd Grimshaw (Bruno Langley).

The openly gay Marcus caused a stir last year when he fell in love with hairdresser and single mum Maria (Samia Ghadie). The pair moved in together and Marcus became a father figure to her son Liam. But the new storyline will see Marcus begin to question his feelings for Maria after Todd sets his sights on him.

Speaking of his decision to leave the ITV soap, Condou said: “I've had a fantastic time at Corrie but feel it's time for me to move on. I was only meant to return for three months and ended up staying for three years! The producers have been really supportive and are leaving the door open for Marcus, which is great, and my exit will certainly be explosive.”

Show bosses are promising that Marcus’s involvement with Todd will “divide the residents ofCoronation Street”. Producer Stuart Blackburn added: “I will be incredibly sad to see Charlie go and wish him well for what I know will be an exciting future.”

Back in October, Condou admitted to RadioTimes.com that 2013 had been a quiet year for both Marcus and Maria, explaining that Ghadie’s appearance on Dancing on Ice had had a big effect on their plotlines. But he went on to reveal that he was looking forward to the ructions in the pair’s relationship:

“I don’t think anyone has a happy ever after in soap. Everyone wants to see a bit of drama and there’s definitely going to be a lot of that. I welcome it with open arms.”

CORRIE STARS IN HORRIFIC XMAS MEDICAL MYSTERY AT SHOPPING CENTRE
Scripts may have to be rewritten after yesterday's shocking and tragic news.
Shocking news for ITV producers as Coronation Street stars Catherine Tyldesley & Ryan Thomas have come down with a contagious and virulent mystery illness while attending a shopping mall in Salford, Manchester England.
The hitherto unknown virus has been dubbed Xmas Fever.
It has resulted in both stars being put into a protective glass bubble and all holiday shoppers have been advised to stay well back.
Those who still feel it necessary to shop in Salford have been advised to form an orderly queue to pass by the two infected stars.
Sadly, two children who didn't listen to warnings, have caught the same virus.
Their punishment is to be quarantined with Ryan.

Charlie Condou (Charles Lomax David Condou, born 8 January 1973) is a British actor best known as for playing the gay character Marcus Dent in Coronation Street. He is also a columnist for The Guardian and a gay rights activist.

Career:

In 2005 he appeared as Jonatton Yeah? in Nathan Barley and a year later as Renoir in the BBC drama The Impressionists. Other television and film roles included guest appearances in Gimme Gimme Gimme and Dead Babies. He had a cameo role as one of the elves in Fred Claus in 2007, before joining Coronation Street in the summer of 2007 as Marcus Dent, a gay male midwife, and briefly boyfriend of Sean Tully. In the same year he appeared in the film Good.

In 2008 he left Coronation Street. Speaking of his departure Condou said: "I have had a fantastic time in Coronation Street, but as a jobbing actor I believe it is time to move on. There are a few things in the pipeline, one of which is a feature film which is being made abroad. But all that's under wraps at the moment." A Corrie spokeswoman said : "We'll be sad to see Charlie leave. The decision was a mutual one."

In March 2011 Condou returned to Coronation Street after an absence of almost three years. He has promised that the character will become more prominent in the show in 2012. It had been reported that Coronation Street was to have its first gay wedding in 2011 when Marcus Dent was to tie the knot with Sean Tully, however the plot failed to materialise.

In his youth Condou shared a flat with Robbie Williams. Condou now lives in Islington with his Canadian boyfriend, Cameron Laux and their children, Georgia and Hal, who spend half their time with the couple and half with their biological mother, actress Catherine Kanter. In an numerous interviews, Condou has revealed that the children were conceived through IVF treatment, following Kanter's 40th birthday. He occasionally writes a column for the Guardian about his family life.

Condou was listed number 8 in the Independent on Sunday Pink List 2011, 42 in the Pride Power List 2011, 15 in the World Pride Power List 2012 and 14 in the World Pride Power List 2013.

He is a supporter of Manchester Pride, a patron of Terrence Higgins Trust and a fundraiser for various other LGBT groups.
