Star-studded dinner parties raise funds for HIV supper club

Celebrity guests attending HIV and sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust’s The Supper Club event last night helped to raise around £80,000.

45 simultaneous dinner parties were held around the capital, with guests including Cilla Black, Graham Norton, Rory Bremner, Russell Tovey, Dan Gillespie Sells, and gay Tory MP Nick Herbert.

A cocktail-filled after party at Piccadilly’s Café De Paris, hosted by Coronation Street star Charlie Condou, followed. The event is in its eleventh year.

Genevieve Edwards, Terrence Higgins Trust’s Executive Director of Fundraising, said: “Our supporters once again did us proud with a show-stopper of an event which has raised huge amounts of money to support people living with HIV.

“With World AIDS Day just round the corner it’s a vital time to raise awareness of HIV so we’re delighted so many of our guests turned out in force again last night to show their support for this cause.”

Terrence Higgins Trust is the UK’s largest HIV and sexual health charity. It recently launched www.myhiv.org.uk, a site for people living with HIV in the UK, for accredited information, self management tools, interactive web services and community forums.

Tom_In_Oz_: @DiversityRM @Charliecondou so after a social welfare oriented lesson in a school can you appreciate how my job feels after 32 years of teaching....after pouring out you heart and getting people to think, there are just some kids who come from homes where they have been so well brainwashed they're not gonna change their attitudes in a hurry...it's a long slow process to bring about change. I have another 7 years to go...I have thousands of kids I have helped to educate...I just hope some of them got the message about "equality for all."

tanyabloomfield: @DiversityRM @charliecondou just thinking it would be great if you could film these & then distribute to more schools across the country you could use YouTube or Vimeo. Just be a great way to reach out to schools too far away.. #thinkingoutloud (lol) you could also Skype connecting multiple schools to a single presentation / Q&A.
