Clemmie Moodie - The Daily Mirror said:
"It’s only April 2013 but already there’s a contender for Showbiz Event of the Year. The inaugural, champagne-fuelled Out In The City/g3 Readers’ Awards took place on Friday night, hosted by Corrie star Charlie Condou and actress, Sophie Ward. A celeb-backed silent auction, boasting prizes such as a trip on the Orient Express, a signed Kylie Minogue montage and a private tour of the Coronation St set, helped raise over £23k for charity, Diversity Role Models. Guests in attendance included MIC’s Ollie Locke, Clare Balding and Waterloo Road’s Heather Peace. And, in a true meeting of minds, Stephen Fry met Towie’s Harry Derbridge. The conversation didn't last long. Nonetheless, a brilliant night had by all."

CHARLIE CONDOU SNAPS
Mid-2013 Charlie was on the way to see Derren Brown's stage show Infamous when he was hijacked by the paparazzi - it's a great look of surprise nonetheless!

Charlie Condou has quit Corrie!
by Daniel Falconer

The 40-year-old actor, who plays Marcus Dent, will leave the long-running ITV soap for a second time next summer following a three-year stint but producers will leave the door open for him to return. Charlie - who first played Marcus between 2007 and 2008 and returned to the Manchester-based show in 2011 - told The Sun newspaper: "I've had a fantastic time at 'Corrie' but feel it's time to move on. I was only meant to return for three months and ended up staying for three years. "The producers have been really supportive and are leaving the door open for Marcus, which is great, and my exit will certainly be explosive." Series Producer Stuart Blackburn added: "I will be incredibly sad to see Charlie go and we wish well for what I know will be an exciting future." Charlie's character will find himself embroiled in a bitter love battle in his final storyline before leaving screens next year. Marcus is currently in a relationship with Maria Connor (Samia Ghadie) - whom he developed feelings for last year, despite previously identifying himself as gay - but their romance will come under threat when Todd Grimshaw, played by Bruno Langley, sets his sights on him. Soap bosses promise Marcus and Todd's illicit involvement will "divide" the residents of Weatherfield in the lead-up to Marcus' exit.

ABC LOCAL NEWS:
Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games kick off in Newcastle
The 2013 Special Olympic Asia Pacific Games are underway in Newcastle after a spectacular opening ceremony at Hunter Stadium last night. More than 24,500 people packed the stadium, with the 2,500 athletes and coaches given a traditional welcome to country by local Aboriginal people. Governor-General Quentin Bryce was in the stands as the athletes with intellectual disabilities from 30 countries across the Asia Pacific marched into Hunter stadium. Marcia Hines, Human Nature and Iva Davies entertained the crowd along with local performers, Special Olympics dancers and a massive drumming performance by local school students. The New South Wales Sports Minister Gabrielle Upton was also there and says the crowd roared to greet the Australian team as it came into the stadium. "It was an amazing spectacular of music and dance and theatre and fireworks celebrating the opening of the Special Olympics at the Hunter Stadium," she said. "I wanted to welcome all the international guests, fans, parents, supporters and carers who will make the next six days a wonderful wonderful experience for those who come to compete at the Special Olympics." Athletes will compete in nine sports this week at venues across Newcastle, including swimming, badminton, basketball, cricket and football. Games director Chris Heverin says there are a few ideal locations for the public to come along and cheer on the athletes. "The cricket at No.1 Sportsground, football at No.2 and No.4 Sportsground, the athletics out at Glendale and also the basketball out at Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium," he said. "They are the best venues to go to and we are encouraging everyone to come to those events. "They are free and you will see some amazing competition and the athletes are full on and they're out there really having a go." Mr Heverin says spectators can expect to see some competitive action. "They're there representing their country and they've never been prouder and when they're out there on that field," he said. "They're giving their best and they want to do their personal best time for themselves and their families and also for their country." The week-long event is expected to inject around $20 million into the Newcastle region economy. A street parade will be held on Newcastle's foreshore this Saturday night as part of the closing ceremony
