ANOTHER QUIET NIGHT AT THE PUB TURNS INTO FARCE FOR MARCUS AND MARIA

Scene 12:

It's Friday night at the Rovers. The regulars are all seated and trying to relax. We spot Marcus and Maria quietly enjoying their drinks and hot snacks.

HERE'S AN ALMOST ACCURATE RETELLING OF FRIDAY NIGHT'S CORRIE:

Marcus: (whispering) Oh, here comes Norris! Keep your eyes down Maria, he MIGHT not see us!
(Enter Norris - the room goes quiet in anticipation - Norris sweeps his eyes around the barroom eventually settling on Marcus and Maria)
Norris: Oh, hello you two!
Maria: (under breath) Marcus, it's too late he's spotted us!
Marcus: (exasperated) God help us!
(Maria and Marcus look up, in synchronicity roll their eyes and shudder)
Norris: Just going past and thought you might have heard something about David and Kylie's baby?
Norris: You know it's not like me to gossip but is it true what they are saying?
(David walks into the bar directly behind Norris)
Norris: Ooo, looks like I've just arrived in time
(David gestures to Kylie the barmaid to join him at the tables nearby while all watch intrigued)
Norris: You two don't mind do you....?
Norris: (Norris answers himself before Maria and Marcus can respond)
Of course you don't mind...move it, Maria!
(Norris positions himself next to Maria and begins to watch David and Kylie like a hawk)
Norris: I'll just squeeze in here...
Maria: Eee up, I've spilled my chardonnay!
Marcus: This is MY hot chip...and I'm not sharing!
(In foreground David and Kylie engage in earnest conversation while Norris, Marcus and Maria sit quietly in their corner table - slightly out of focus)
Marcus: Maria did you know I came up by train, all the way from London, to sit in the background of this establishing two-shot - out of focus - and say nothing!
Maria: The joys of being an actor!
(Marcus nods knowingly - they both laugh - rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb)

End of scene 12:
