Synopsis:

Meet Lenny Scratch, an up and coming East End crime lord at the age of twenty one. Lenny's determined to make it big and to join the ranks of the legendary criminals. He determines to join 'The Boy's Club', a fabled haunt of gangsters and villains. Clues lead Lenny to the club, but there he finds long-dead villains, and an unexpected fate for those who don't come up to scratch...

Comment:

A superb working of revenge and betrayal, with excellent casting and brilliant direction. One of the best episodes, and one which stays with you. Lennie's hammer attack on his father is brutal and shocking, and Lennie's fate leaves you squirming for weeks after. Classic horror.

Urban Gothic, a series of half hour contemporary urban horror tales, first transmitted in the UK on Channel 5 over the Spring and Summer of 2000. A second series followed in 2001, but Channel 5 got cold feet on the project mid-way through, changed the schedules around, and the show all but vanished from view. Channel 5 declined to take up the option of a third season, and so the project currently lies at rest.

Awards:

Boys Club was a finalist in the Banff Rockie Award for 2001. Other finalists were The Gas Station Ziegler Film GmbH; I Saw You Granada TV; Ibiza - £99 Return (Shockers) Tiger Aspect Productions); and Staunch Hunter Productions in association with Morrison Grieve Ltd.
