Coronation Street star Charlie Condou has revealed the romance between his alter-ego Marcus Dent and Maria Connor could be headed for a break-up. The 40-year-old actor, who plays sonographer Marcus, admitted that a trip to a gay bar with their tenants Beth Tinker (Lisa George) and Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment) brings emotions to a head, especially with Maria’s niggling doubts over whether their relationship can survive. “Marcus and Maria have been doing really well since they got together. I think there’s always going to be the question whether Marcus is still interested in men or not. There’s always an element of doubt, certainly for Maria – she will always be worried about that,” he told the soap’s official website. Charlie continued: “Maria’s not best pleased (about the gay bar). It all comes to a bit of a head when Marcus has a chat with the barman, who is an old friend, and Maria is worried there might be something more than friendship.” Maria, played by Samia Ghadie, decides to walk out, leaving Marcus in the bar – when in walks his ex Sean Tully (Antony Cotton). “Things have been tricky between Marcus and Sean for a while, but they have a couple of drinks and a talk, and things are really nice, almost like the old days,” he explained. Charlie teased: “Could this be the end of Marcus and Maria? It’s too early to tell, I think. But it’s definitely going to cause them some problems.” The scenes are set to air on ITV1 on Friday.

Corrie star Charlie Condou keen for Dancing on Ice role

Coronation Street star Charlie Condou has revealed that he’d love to take part in next year’s Dancing on Ice. The actor, who plays Marcus Dent in the popular soap, has been enjoying watching his Corrie co-star Samia Ghadie on the ice, and it has changed his mind about the show. Speaking to Radio Times magazine, Charlie explained: “Samia’s been teasing me about it for ages, saying that she thinks I should do it next year. “I was thinking, ‘Not a chance’, but when I went to watch it live, I started to think I’d really enjoy this, so you never know – watch this space! “I think, out of all those sorts of shows, it’s the one I’d want to do the most.” Charlie, who plays Samia’s on-screen boyfriend in Coronation Street, has been enjoying watching his co-star on the ice, and he’s been amazed by how far she’s come on in the competition. “She’d bored me in the run-up with hundreds of videos on her phone of her doing different turns or skating backwards,” he said. “So I saw what she was like when she started this and I can see where she is now and she’s amazing. “I went to watch her in week one and had my Team Samia t-shirt on and sat in the front row cheering her on. She was brilliant. I hope she goes really far.”
