Coronation Street's Charlie Condou reveals to Soaplife how Marcus and Maria take their kissing game further - in fact, all the way into bed!

The loving between Marcus and Maria actually starts with a fight, doesn't it?

"Yes. Marcus finds out Maria talked Aiden out of taking a job in London and gets really angry because he feels like she's interfering. But I think his anger is also based on the fact that Marcus knows deep down that his relationship with Aiden is not right for him."

How does Maria explain herself?

"They have a big row about it and Maria eventually admits that she did it because she's in love with Marcus. This really takes him by surprise and I think he realises that he can't deny his feelings for her either. They fall into each other's arms and have a very passionate embrace."

And then they end up in bed together!

"They get taken over by the emotions of the moment and one thing leads very quickly to another! The next day is a big shock for both of them."

Is this the first time Marcus has slept with a woman?

"Yes, absolutely. He says in one of the later scenes that he has never cheated on anyone before and has certainly never slept with a woman before."

Is Marcus in love with Maria?

"He thinks he is, but he's incredibly confused. It's like everything in his life has been turned upside-down, like everything he has ever known about himself is suddenly in question and it doesn't feel nice."

Is that why Marcus says he'll leave with Aiden?

"I think he's just doing a classic running away from the situation. Marcus thinks that if he chooses this path he can continue to be the happy-go-lucky guy he has always been."

But Maria begs him to stay...

"Marcus decides the best thing to do is to tell her that she should forget about him because he's gay. But when Aiden arrives at the flat to pick him up he realises that he just can't leave and that Aiden is the wrong person for him."

And that means?

"And that means there are troublesome times ahead!"

They could never leave it at just a quick snog, could they? After weeks, nay months, of slow-burn cross-sexual romantic tension it appears that gay Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou) and not-gay Maria Connor (Samia Ghadie) will end up in bed in the next couple of weeks. It seems that when Marcus decides to hot foot it to London with new fella Aiden, Maria fesses up and tells Marcus she loves him. They snog again and then head to bed. In the morning Marcus sets off to find Aiden and leave for London.

Charlie Conduo says: "The response I've had on Twitter has been great. It seems that the public has been willing Marcus and Maria to get together. A lot of people seem to prefer Marcus and Maria together rather than Marcus and Sean, which is interesting and very unexpected. There is a lot of interest from the viewers about where this going." And asked whether there can be a romantic future for Marcus and Maria he says: I don't know. I'm an old romantic, so I would like to think so. But, having said that, this is Coronation Street, so I am sure that the path of love never runs smoothly. I think there are troublesome times ahead for all concerned. The whole situation is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets any better. There is a long way to go with this story.

That’s what Marcus Dent’s family find themselves dealing with in upcoming episodes on Coronation Street. The UK soap reported that the parents of gay nurse Marcus Dent, played by Charlie Condou, will pay their son a visit at Christmas. Viewers know that Marcus currently finds himself torn between his new beau Aiden and his BFF Maria Connor, even though Marcus had never had romantic feelings for a woman before (well except for Sean). But in the next few weeks, Marcus and Maria’s feelings will grow and the two of them will have sex. Following that, they’ll decide to embark on a full-fledged romantic relationship that will have the town talking. And when Marcus’ parents come to visit, things promise to get even more complicated. Let’s just say it won’t easy for Marcus’ parents to adjust his new life choice.

According the show, this storyline has been popular with fans who like Maria and Marcus together (or at least they prefer him with her than with ex-boyfriend Sean, but who wouldn’t). Charlie Condou, the openly gay actor who plays Marcus, hopes the odd couple stick together for awhile. "I don't know — I'm an old romantic, so I would like to think so. But, having said that, this is Coronation Street, so I am sure that the path of love never runs smoothly." Condou told Radio Times. "I think there are troublesome times ahead for all concerned," he said. "The whole situation is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets any better. There is a long way to go with this story." Condou added that will be major long lasting fallout when Maria and Marcus’ current boyfriends, Aiden and Jason respectively, find out and you can also expect lots of drama when Marcus’ ex-lover trizzy Sean Tully learns the news as well.
